Cody Simpson Swims Into 9th Place at Australian Swimming Championships 2021

Cody Simpson gets a hug from girlfriend Marloes Stevens just shortly after competing in the 2021 Australian Swimming Championships held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre on Sunday (April 18) in Australia.

The 24-year-old singer and athlete was in good spirits after the Mens 50m Butterfly competition, where he placed 9th overall, out of 10 swimmers.

Cody spoke to the Sydney Morning Herald after his competition, revealing that he’s “still trying to figure out how to put it all together, still a little rusty out of quarantine.”

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to race this week but figured I’d do the 50m just to start swinging the arms over and see how it goes,” Cody added. “I was happy to make a final in my first week back. That’s good enough for me at the moment.”

He continued that “to make an open final in the first go around is pretty cool, I’ll keep improving as we go. There’s a long way to go but I’ve come a long way in a short amount of time.”

Cody is committed to have a chance to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Cody was spotted in training just days ahead of the event.
