Lil Nas X Was Afraid of Alienating Some Fans at First When Releasing 'Montero'

Lil Nas X shows off his ripped abs on the cover of Entertainment Weekly‘s pride issue!

The 22-year-old artist is one of four covers, which feature BIPOC entertainers.

Pose‘s MJ Rodriguez, SNL‘s Bowen Yang and Master of None‘s Lena Waithe all also have their own covers, which you can check out over on Just Jared.

In the issue, Lil Nas X opened up about his latest hit song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and how he was scared of alienating some of his fanbase at first, as the song has references to gay sex.

“At first I was really afraid of alienating any of my straight fans,” he told the mag. “But then it was kind of like, if they feel offended, they were never really here for me. They were here for whatever version of myself they made up in their head.”

He also dished on writing more of his own lyrics, dating and meeting new people, and more. Head to EW.com to see what he shared!

If you missed it, it was also just announced that Lil Nas X will be hitting the stage at Saturday Night Live later this month.
