Candice Patton Dishes On Introducing More Female Friendships On 'The Flash' In Season 6

Female friendships are going to be a big focus on the upcoming season of The Flash, especially when it comes to Iris’s new paper.

Candice Patton opened up about the new season recently, revealing that while hiring for her newspaper staff, Iris will be bringing in several female hires.

“Iris is hiring a whole team of people to get this off the ground,” Candice shared with press. “Kamilla [Hwang] will be shooting photography for Iris and will be back in the mix, around at the paper. It’s definitely going to be a set and storyline we visit often in Season 6.”

She added that the new staff at the paper will allow Iris to step into a new role as a mentor.

“There’s definitely a few females that she hires, that she definitely has a bond with. I think it’s more of like a mentor, mentee kind of relationship,” Candice continued. “These younger women that she’s kind of bringing up in the world of journalism and looking after.”

“I think there are going to be much more of those kind of female friendships, especially in the workplace, which I’m really excited about.”

The Flash returns in October on The CW.

Candice Patton & Grant Gustin Don't Want You To Worry About Barry & Iris Splitting Up on 'The Flash'

Candice Patton and Grant Gustin pose for a picture together during The Flash cast’s signing session during 2019 Comic-Con over the weekend in San Diego, Calif.

The two stars were joined by their co-stars Hartley Sawyer, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, and Carlos Valdes for the meet and greet event with fans.

Just after the show’s panel earlier in the day, Candice and Grant opened up about the future of WestAllen and how you shouldn’t be worried about them splitting up at all.

“We’re pretty much still dealing with the shock of it [losing Nora], and Barry is trying aggressively to be optimistic and move forward and probably, to a fault, not dealing with it in all the way he should be dealing with it,” Grant shares about what’s going on in the couple’s lives right now.

Candice added, “I think you’ll see kind of early on, Iris kind of questions how they’re both dealing with it. They really talk about what the appropriate way is to kind of grieve Nora so that they can move forward in a positive way and get back to Team Flash, and do it in a way so that they can sustain themselves as a married couple.”

And if you’ve been worried about a divorce coming, don’t – “There’s tension, but we are coming closer in some ways too,” Grant says.

“It’s good marital tension, where it’s like, you’re not afraid of them getting divorced, but they’ve got stuff to work out, you know?” Candice shared.

'Arrow' Cast Dishes on 'Cinematic' Final Season at Comic-Con

It’s Stephen Amell‘s last Comic-Con with the Arrow cast!

The actor, who plays Oliver Queen on the CW series, spoke at the TV Guide Magazine Fan Favorites panel during 2019 Comic-Con International at San Diego Convention Center on Friday (July 19) in San Diego.

He was joined by his co-star Candice Patton (Iris West).

Their other co-stars Rick Gonzalez (Rene Ramirez), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), and Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake) attended BuzzFeed Presents: A Batsh!t Crazy Bash With The CW’s Batwoman at San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter.

“Last night was super emotional,” Stephen told ET at the event. “It actually caught me off guard, the number of people who came up [to me.] The director of Supergirl took like five minutes to thank me – which feels weird – for getting their break on Arrow.”

“It feels great,” he added about the upcoming eighth and final season. “I think that [for] the cast and the crew, it’s starting to feel a teensy bit like a victory lap. It feels awesome … I was about to drop an F-bomb, but it feels awesome!”

“I think it’s a tribute,” David Ramsey (John Diggle) chimed in. “There’s a certain amount of what Stephen said: a victory lap. There’s a lot of stuff from the past. There’ll be some old faces that will show up. And I think, in terms of the pacing, it’s changed because we usually do this in 22 episodes, and now we’re doing it in 10, so it’s going to have the sense of a movie every time you watch an episode.”

“It almost feels cinematic,” Katie, who will be directing episode three, shared. “Each episode is huge.”

The final season of Arrow premieres on October 15!

Candice Patton Talks 'The Flash' Season 6 & Iris' Future

Candice Patton is just ready for Iris West-Allen to be a reporter already – and tbh, so are we!

The Flash actress opened up to ET during a recent interview about Iris getting back to her journalistic roots in the upcoming season.

“We’ve been toying with Iris being a journalist for many years. She’s never actually sat down and tackled that as her profession that she’s iconically known for in the comics, so I’m always pushing for that.”

Candice also opened up about how long The Flash will be on the air, since it’s fellow DC show, Arrow, will be signing off with season eight.

“I think we’ve got a lot of story left. The comics are very, very rich,” she shared. “As long as the fans are excited to have us on air, I’m sure we’ll figure out a way to make it work.”

The Flash returns in October on The CW.
