Luke Benward and Dove Cameron go way back to their Disney days and it’s a on-and-off screen friendship JJJ is obsessed with.
We were excited to hear that the two would be starring in Dumplin’ together, even though they didn’t have many scenes together at all – and he was just a bit upset about that too.
“It was great because we were all staying in the same hotel and we’d all get dinner and that kind of stuff. I was able to get close with everyone, except the one person who I actually knew before we started filming – Dove,” he told THR in a recent video interview.
Luke adds, “I didn’t even see her one time. It was insane. I missed Dove. I hadn’t seen her in like five years and we were in this same movie, and never even crossed paths.”
However, Luke did get to get super close with Danielle Macdonald, who he gushed over in the interview.
“She’s a movie star,” he shared about Danielle. “She’s not only crazy talented, she’s one of the dopest people. She had a phenomenal sense of humor and it was amazing [working with her].”

Willowdean and Bo have an amazing connection in Netflix’s newest film, Dumplin’.
Danielle Macdonald is opening up about the couple and why their special relationship.
“I’m glad I did it. I think girls need to see that she drove herself crazy about that, because that’s her insecurity,” she told Elle about Will’s freak out after her kiss with Bo, played by Luke Benward.
“That’s something that she needs to learn to be okay with as well—he wouldn’t be touching her if he didn’t want to.”
Danielle adds that Bo isn’t “meant to represent the hottest guy that’s super popular. He’s not a star football player. It’s not about that at all. He’s just a guy at her work who actually has his own life and his own challenges. He just happened to find someone that is real and who he connects with, so why wouldn’t he like her?”
“She sees him as this amazing guy, but he also sees her as this also powerful, beautiful girl,” she says. “That’s the point. We shouldn’t be looking at this and being like, how could I get involved with this guy? I think that’s more the point of it—that there doesn’t have to be a barrier, and it also doesn’t matter what other people think, because they’re both into it. I think that’s pretty special.”
