Dara Renee Was Only Supposed To Be On One Episode of 'High School Musical'

Dara Renee wasn’t originally supposed to be a regular on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series!

The 19-year-old actress auditioned for several roles on the show, starting with Ashlyn and Gina before falling in love with Courtney’s character.

“They were like, ‘The only thing is, she’s only going to be in one episode. I was like, ‘Oh shoot.’ And I felt like they already knew who they wanted for those other characters. So I was like, ‘Yikes, here we go Courtney!’” Dara explained on YSBnow: The Podcast.

She continued, “So I went for Courtney and I really vibed with her. I was like, ‘It’s okay if she’s only in one episode. I just want to experience this character.’”

After Dara did a super successful chemistry read with Olivia Rodrigo, she waited to hear back from the HSM team.

“I wanted for a month I think and they called me and they were like, ‘Okay, you got it!’ And I was like, ‘Yay! One episode, that’s okay though!’ And they were like, ‘No, no, no. Series regular! You’re going to be on the whole season!’” Dara explained.

We’re so glad we got to see Dara the entire season!
