Olivia Rodrigo is opening up about her early days on Disney Channel.
The 18-year-old actress and singer started her Disney career on the series Bizaardvark, but she says she struggled with loneliness and an identity crisis.
While she did meet her BFF Madison Hu on the show, she still felt it was lonely.
“It’s a multicamera sitcom, so literally every set is within a yard of each other,†Olivia told Elle. “You just walk to the different sets.â€
She also said that she went through “an identity crisis on steroids,” where she struggled with questions like, “Who the f**k am I? Who cares about me? How do I treat people?”
“Most 14-year-olds aren’t in a room with adults being like, ‘So, what’s your brand?’â€
Disney/Pixar’s Soul has picked up the Best Animated Feature Film award at the 2021 Academy Awards on Sunday (April 25)!
The hit animated film, which debuted on Disney+ on Christmas Day 2020, beat out another Disney/Pixar film, Onward, as well as Netflix’s Over The Moon and Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon and Apple TV’s Wolfwalkers.
Director and co-writer Pete Docter and executive producer Dana Murray accepted the award during the ceremony. Check out photos of them on the red carpet!
Pete, who hit the carpet with one of the film’s producer Dana Leigh Murray, serves as director and Kemp is co-director for the Disney/Pixar animated feature Soul, which is up for multiple Oscars. They wrote the screenplay as well, along with Mike Jones.
Also in attendance were Jon Baptiste, Trent Reznor (with wife Mariqueen Maandig) and Atticus Ross, who are nominated for Best Original Score for their work on the movie.
Kemp is nominated separately for another movie, One Night In Miami, for Best Adapted Screenplay. Soul is also up for Best Sound and Best Animated Feature Film.
Pete is no stranger to the Oscars. He’s been nominated multiple times over the years, for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Screenplay for Toy Story, Wall-E, Monster’s Inc, Up and Inside Out, as well as Best Animated Short Film for Mike’s New Car. Pete has won twice – Best Animated Feature for Up and for Inside Out.
The new live action is of course about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil, who is played by Emma Stone.
Here’s a synopsis: Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets.
One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson), a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.
Cruella, directed by Craig Gillespie, will be released in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access on May 28th.
