Freeform Star Dilan Gwyn Opens Up About Facing Discrimination in Native Sweden
If you take one look at Dilan Gwyn, you might never even guess that she was from Sweden.
The actress talked with NKD mag in a recent issue about facing discrimination from some studios for the way she looked.
Dilan was actually told that her appearance was too “exotic-looking” by Swedish directors.
“The lack of on-screen diversity is a problem in Sweden,” she shared.
But that didn’t stop Dilan from moving to London, where she found more success and open-minded studios — and it eventually led her to the United States where she booked the role of Willa on Freeform’s Beyond.

Dilan‘s mysterious Willa, who she fell in love with instantly, will be seeking the normal out from her relationship with Holden (Burkely Duffield).
“For me, the second season was a lot more fun because now we have established the realm and the[relationship between Willa and Holden],” she says, adding that she’ll be wanting to find what she wants out of life in the upcoming episodes.
Dilan adds, “I think for Willa, she didn’t even know that herself. It’s always about the realm or what Arthur wants, but what does she want? A part of [Willa] wants to be a normal girl and have a normal life, which she’s never had before. She’s very much drawn to that. She was really drawn to Holden having a normal family.”
Beyond season two debuts on Thursday, January 18th on Freeform.
