Niall Horan Says Going Solo Was An 'Instant Reality Check'

Niall Horan got real in a brand new interview about how venturing into a solo record deal was an instant reality check.

The 24-year-old former One Direction singer opened up about just even the thought of recording an entire song, not just one part, woke him up.

Speaking with Melbourne Herald, Niall shared that he “never thought about that part of it until I went to the vocals for a whole song and I was like ‘Jesus!’. I did find my best vocals came out in the first couple of takes.”

“A lot of what was used on the record was from either take one or two. The more you sing it the more tired your voice gets and you overthink stuff. I wanted the album to be organic.”

Flicker debuted in October of 2017 to a big success and Niall found it enjoyable that he had the option to pick everything for it.

“For this record I could pick the producer, record with a full live band in a studio and go through every drum sound and guitar sound in detail. It was great,” he shared. “In a weird way it felt that’s how an album should be made. That was the best part of the whole thing for me.”

With Flicker, Niall could also take his time, instead of being woken up in the middle of the night on a tour bus to record.

“It was nice to take my time on this album,” Niall adds. “That’s what I had in my sight. When you’ve got time you’ve got time to make mistakes. I was able to write bad songs, and obviously had the good ones as well.”

Niall‘s upcoming tour will kick off in March in Ireland.
