Candice Patton, Caity Lotz, Emily Bett Rickards Reveal How 'Shethority' Was Born

Candice Patton, Caity Lotz, Emily Bett Rickards Reveal How 'Shethority' Was Born

Candice Patton and Caity Lotz were celebrating big time this week because the new Shethority website just launched!

Now, speaking with EW, the two CW stars, along with Emily Bett Rickards, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and more are talking about their mission behind the organization and how it really was born.

“It’s usually one or two women on each show and all the sudden there were five or six of us and we started really talking,” Caity shared about when the idea came about, which was during some downtime while filming the first crossover event.

Shethority is the place to go online, where women can come together and just talk. About everything, and anything.

“There’s been this movement of female empowerment and women standing up and asking for what they deserve and demanding respect and equality,” Candice adds. “Shethority came around the time of the #MeToo and all of these other movements, and I think it has to do with where we are in our society.”

Arrow star Emily also spoke about the space provides a go-to place for fans, and them, to get real with their feelings and get support.

“There is no substitute for the authenticity of actually talking to one another,” she shared. “Any question you have, most likely someone else is having as well. You’re continually learning about yourself and the people around you.”

Candice continues, “We found that the more women speak to each other and speak truthfully, we have way more in common than we have differences.”

Candice Patton Talks About How Iris Will React To Nora in 'The Flash' Season 5

Candice Patton Talks About How Iris Will React To Nora in 'The Flash' Season 5

The Flash‘s season four finale delivered some shocking news – that Mystery Girl was really Barry and Iris’s daughter Nora – from the future!

Speaking during a recent appearance, Candice Patton opened up about how Iris could be reacting when season five premieres this fall.

If you remember, the finale left off just after Nora told her parents who she really was and that she had made a big mistake in coming back. This could suggest that there will be major issues ahead.

“I mean, I think anyone in that position would be like ‘What the…?’ You know,” Candice shared at the POPSUGAR Playground festival. “Because it’s weird, her daughter came back from the future, essentially at the same age that [Iris] is currently.”

She adds, “So, it’s super trippy. I think both her and Barry are kinda like ‘What the hell?’”

Candice also teased that because Nora is in their present timeline, it could have big consequences for Iris and Barry.

“That also means that, you know, Iris has to be pregnant at some point. When does that happen? How does this affect the time continuum, if she’s coming back to the past? Could it fudge up whole storylines? Could Barry and I not be together? I have no idea what’ll happen.”

Riverdale's Ashleigh Murray Says Candice Patton Paved The Way For Her To Play Josie McCoy

Riverdale's Ashleigh Murray Says Candice Patton Paved The Way For Her To Play Josie McCoy

Over the weekend, Ashleigh Murray gave some praise to Candice Patton, who paved the way for her to play Josie McCoy on Riverdale.

During the PopSugar Play/Ground panel, the two stars opened up about playing typically roles on television that were originally portrayed as white women.

“Comic book fans are very opinionated [and] very vocal,” Candice first shared, noting the comments she got when she first started to play Iris on The Flash. “So it was very scary stepping into that role when I started the show.”

She did get negative comments and dealing with the harassment wasn’t a walk in the park at all – but it did get better.

“Over time, people have embraced me and embraced this character, and I know it’s really important,” she said. “What’s great is that in years to come, people will remember Iris West as being African American.”

In fact, Candice playing Iris has paved the way for Ashleigh to play Josie, another typically white role.

Ashleigh, too, got the negative comments.

“Now it’s just white noise,” she shared. “I don’t even notice it or see it much anymore. And it’s probably thanks to [Candice], because if you had to go through it before I did, you probably made the transition a little bit easier.”

That’s an amazing legacy to have.

Both Riverdale and The Flash will return this fall on The CW.
