Yara Shahidi is opening up about what’s coming upon next on the new season of grown-ish.
Speaking with EOnline, the 18-year-old actress revealed that sophomore year is filled with Zoey Johnson taking charge of her life, school and relationships.
“[Zoey] goes in with the idea of what school should be, and having gone through the ringer last season, she feels like she should come into sophomore year with a little more in control, and that doesn’t always happen for her,” Yara says.
She adds that “what’s fun is that, I think going in having already made her decision about Luca [Luka Sabbat], means that you now get to experience the life stuff of what it’s like to actually be in a relationship with somebody.”
“So it’s no longer the fun of the chase that we experienced last season, but it’s just what it means when you actually start talking to somebody,” Yara shared.

As if grown-ish wasn’t the best show on television right now, they just upped their cool factor.
The Freeform series has partnered up with scholarship Scholly, to help fans pay off their loan debt up to $125,000.
“Acknowledging that student loans have crippled a generation of young Americans and are keeping them from achieving their dreams, the program aims to help student loan borrowers pay off debts that may be holding them back from living their best lives,” a press release stated.
To date, Scholly has awarded students with $100 million in debt-reducing scholarships.
To apply and get involved in the program, “current students and graduates with an outstanding loan balance” can head over to either Scholly’s app or website, and winners will be announced at the upcoming 2019 Freeform Summit later this spring.

The series kicks off their second season with two all-new episodes.
In the first, Zoey and the gang return for their sophomore year and Zoey is determined to make the “sequel†better than the original. She, Ana and Nomi move into a less-than-stellar off-campus apartment and have to quickly adjust to each other as roommates. Zoey is excited to see Luca again after a summer of keeping in touch via social media.
And in the second episode, Zoey feels insecure when she realizes that her friends don’t see her relationship with Luca as #RelationshipGoals, prompting her to try a little too hard to prove that what they have is special.
Plus, in his first move as an RA, Aaron (Trevor Jackson) organizes a movie night to build community…but his film choice does nothing to help people unwind.
Grown-ish is back TOMORROW night and JJJ can hardly wait!

Learning from the ups and downs of their first year, they all assume they’ve got their second year on lock, but quickly realize that they’re not as grown as they think.

We are just one week away from the second season of grown-ish and we have a brand new sneak peek!
The new clip was released on Christmas Day and gave us even more of an inside look at the upcoming season.
In the video, Zoey (Yara Shahidi), Nomi (Emily Arlook), and Ana (Francia Raisa) move into a less than stellar off campus apartment, and Zoey tries to force couple-y things with Luca (Luka Sabbat).

Chloe and Halle Bailey join EP Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry at the Grown-ish Brunch event held at Morehouse College over the weekend in Atlanta, Ga.
The grown-ish actors and showrunner opened up about what’s ahead on season two of grown-ish, which premieres on January 2nd on Freeform.
“The idea that you know everything and so we come back bigger and better and sequels, which you’ll see in the first episode,” Jenifer shared about where the show is heading this season. “Zoey has in mind that she’ll come back in and everything will be perfect and she knows everything and I think the reality is, and it’s a universal concept for young people, you kind of have to fall before you walk so I think she realizes almost immediately that her expectations might not land exactly where she wants to, but that’s OK.”
She adds, “We do some really interesting stuff with their (Chloe and Halle) characters, kind of the social media world. Kinda that fine line we play as women where we’re professionals, and athletes and people who have talent and then also stepping into our sexuality, and social media and how those two things aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive and or multi-layered.”
Another fun thing that the show will tap into is how all the characters think they’re geniuses.
“It was interesting because we had this conversation early on,” Jenifer says. “We have some young interns who come and hang out in the room with us and and we were like, ‘do you think you’re geniuses?’ and they all were emphatically like, ‘oh yeah!’ We’re exploring what genius is and how people gravitate toward it because it’s different and we don’t understand it.”
