“There’s been a lot of discussion about William Bowery and his identity ’cause it’s not a real person,†she explained. “So, William Bowery is Joe, as we know. And Joe plays piano beautifully, and he’s just always playing and making things up and kind of creating things.”
“’Exile’ was crazy because Joe had written that entire piano part and was singing the Bon Iver part,” Taylor continued. “He was just singing it, the way that the whole first verse is. So I was entranced and asked if we could keep writing that one. It was pretty obvious that it should be a duet because he’s got such a low voice and it sounded really good sung down there in that register.â€
Taylor also dished on Joe‘s contributions to the song “Betty.”
“I just heard Joe singing the entire fully formed chorus of ‘Betty’ from another room and it was just like, ‘Hello’. It was a step that we would have never taken because why would we have ever written a song together?†she said.
“So this was the first time we had a conversation where I came in and was like ‘Hey, this could be really weird and we could hate this, so because we’re in quarantine and there’s nothing else going on, could we just try and see what it’s like if we write this song together?’â€

Taylor Swift won one of the biggest awards of the night at the 2020 American Music Awards, which aired from the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (November 22) in Los Angeles.
The 30-year-old songstress won the Artist of the Year award, and her acceptance speech was filmed in a recording studio!
“Oh hey guys, thank you so much for this. This is a fan voted award, which means so much to me. You guys have been beyond wonderful, all the years of my career, but especially this one when we’ve been so far apart. We haven’t been able to see each other in concert, but I still feel really connected to you through the music,” she said. “Your reaction to Folklore and all the ways in which your imagination honored that album, I just love you so much, and I’m really really lucky because of you.”
“The reason I’m not there tonight is I’m actually I’m rerecording all of my old music, in the studio where we originally recorded it. So it’s been amazing and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Taylor added.
Taylor also picked up the awards for Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock and Favorite Music Video for “Cardigan.â€
The 30-year-old admitted that the sale happened without her knowledge, again, and the company actually reached out to her.
Taylor also shared that she tried to buy the masters from Scooter Braun and Ithaca Holdings, but they wanted her to sign a nondisclosure agreement saying that she would never speak anything about him unless it was positive.
She then added that even though the new company bought her masters, Scooter will still be profiting off of her music and music videos. Taylor said she was excited to work with them until she found that out.
But the good news is, Taylor has already started re-recording her music and she teased some surprises.
“I have recently begun re-recording my older music and it has already proven to be both exciting and creatively fulfilling,” she wrote in her letter. “I have plenty of surprises in store I want to thank you guys for supporting me through this ongoing saga, and I can’t wait for you to hear what I’ve been dreaming up. I love you guys and I’m just gonna keep cruising, as they say.”

Taylor Swift‘s master recordings of her music have reportedly found another new home.
It was reported on Monday (November 16) that Scooter Braun‘s Ithaca Holdings has sold the masters to an investment fund.
According to Variety, the music was sold for more than $300 million and was finalized in the last couple weeks.
Taylor‘s masters were purchased by Scooter and his company back in June 2019 as part of the purchase of her old label Big Machine. She shared a blog post saying that she learned about it at the same time as everyone else in the world did, and it was her worst nightmare.
Taylor Swift is starring in a new Capital One commercial!
The 30-year-old singer continues her partnership with the financial company, and appears in the ad, where she shows off an entire closet full of folklore cardigans.
“It’s looking kind of chilly out today, what am I going to wear,” Taylor says in a voiceover before walking over to open her closet.
“I think I’ll go with… a cardigan!” she says as she picks one out, winks and walks away.
“We might be biased, but we’d say partnering with @taylorswift13 again was the easiest decision in the history of decisions. Watch closely for some easter eggs playing hide + seek in Taylor’s closet!” Capital One shared on Twitter.
Back in 2019, Taylor revealed that she plans to re-record her music so that she owns all the rights to her songs, and her old contract granted her the right to re-record the tracks starting in November 2020.
“My contract says that starting November 2020 — so, next year — I can record albums 1 through 5 all over again — I’m very excited about it,†she said on GMA last year.
The albums she can now start re-recording include Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red and 1989. She will have to wait until 2022 to be able to re-record Reputation because it was released in 2017, and she has to wait five years.
“The reason I’m rerecording my music next year is because I do want my music to live on. I do want it to be in movies, I do want it to be in commercials. But I only want that if I own it,†Taylor told Billboard back in December.
