OlderSimon Curtis Reveals 'Boy Robot' Book Cover - See It Here!
How cool is the book cover for Simon Curtis‘s upcoming novel, “Boy Robot”?!
JJJ has teamed up with Simon, 29, and Riveted for the reveal of the cover and it’s getting us majorly excited for the book’s debut!
Speaking with Riveted, Simon opened up about his inspiration for the story, the cover and his writing inspirations. Check it:
On his inspiration for writing “Boy Robot”: “I wrote an album called 8 Bit Heart several years ago that explored a lot of concepts that really inspire me to this day. What constitutes humanity, what defines it, and the power our innate yearning for love has over us. During that time, I befriended one of my favorite authors, Michael Scott, who asked me when I was writing my own book. I told him it was one of my biggest dreams, but probably wouldn’t happen until I was much older. He interrupted me and told me that I’d already begun writing it in the album, and that I had to get it out of me. It dawned on me that he was right, and I started conceptualizing the story right there and then.”
On his writing influences: “JK Rowling, first and foremost. She’s shaped me, and millions of others, in a way I really can’t begin to describe. Tolkien, Robert Jordan, and David Sedaris are the next three who come to mind. My friend Sam Lansky is incredibly inspiring to me. His writing is so brilliant, his words so expertly woven. He definitely influences me any time I read something he’s written.”
On his reaction when he saw your cover for the first time: “It didn’t even hit me that I was looking at my final cover until much later in the day, after we decided on it. It was such a long process, and I’d seen so many dozens and dozens of comps by the time I was sent the final round of options, that it took a bit for it to really sink in that I finally had my cover. I may have had a slight emotional breakdown once I realized what I was looking at. I’m so grateful that my publisher gave in to my begging and hired my favorite jacket designer, Will Staehle. I am such a fan of his work. He makes pieces that are stunning, eye-catching, and iconic. I still can’t believe I have one of his designs on my book. I’m dying to get a poster made so I can beg him to sign it for me.”
