Cody Simpson Isn't Going To Olympics, But Reached a Personal Goal
Cody Simpson has wrapped his first ever Olympic trials!
The 24-year-old competed in his final event, the 100-meter butterfly, on Thursday (June 17) in Adelaide, Australia.
In the event, Cody actually came in last place with a time of 52.94 seconds. He needed to land a time of 51.7 seconds or less to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
While he didn’t make the team this year, he expressed that he did reach a goal of his, and he will head back to training to try again in three years.
“What an experience racing at my first Australian Olympic Trials. To make a final was our goal this year and with less than a year of training we did just that. I’ve come so much further than I expected to this year and to be racing the best in the country already is a privilege. Thanks to @hawkebr and my training partner Matt Targett for pushing me everyday back in the USA throughout COVID and to my new coach Michael Bohl for the wisdom and swift preparation! I’m so psyched to get back to training. See you in 3 years.. 😎,” Cody shared on Instagram.
Earlier in the day, he wrote, “Just achieved my 2 goals for this year at once! An Olympic trials final and a 52. 100m fly swim. Stoked for tonight!”
If you missed it, Cody competed in another event earlier in the week, and didn’t qualify then either.
