The studio has brought in John Gatins and Andrea Berloff to pen the script, which is not expected to focus on the second animated film in the series, The Return of Jafar.
The flick is “in early development”, but it’s unknown if the stars will return for the next movie.
Aladdin‘s sequel will also not be heading straight to Disney+, but will be going to theaters.
There was talk last year that the sequel could be based on Billy Magnussen‘s character, Prince Anders.
The live-action remake of Aladdin was such a big hit that Disney is working on a spinoff that will star Billy Magnussen as his beloved new character Prince Anders.
THR reports that the movie is being developed for streaming service Disney+ and it won’t be a sequel to Aladdin, which is also being planned.
Billy brought the idea for a spinoff to Disney and the project is now being written by Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme. In in the Aladdin remake, Anders was introduced as a suitor for Princess Jasmine from the fictional land of Skanland.
Billy has also been seen in movies like Into the Woods, The Big Short, and Game Night. He has a role in the upcoming Bond movie No Time to Die.
The Aladdin star recently shared his funny idea for a follow up to the first film.
“I don’t think it will be Return of Jafar, but I think there’s a possibility of a sequel, yes,” Mena told ET, adding, “I think they should do one just about the animals. Like, Abu, Raja, Iago and the carpet all get together. Throwing it out there!”
We are so bummed that this scene from Aladdin was cut from the final version of the movie, because it’s so good!
Composer Alan Menken explains that the scene was cut for time before explaining what the song was about.
“It’s the moment Aladdin and Jasmine first meet, and they realize this is a song that they both knew growing up,” he says. “But, they both sing that song separately from each other in the movie. It was a beautiful moment.”
The Disney live action remake, starring Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud and Will Smith, was a major box office hit and producer Dan Lin is opening up about the possibility of a sequel.
“People clearly loved the movie and watched it multiple times and we get lots of fan letters and people asking us to make Return [of] Jafar; and I can just tell you that we’re in early stages right now, but we’re certainly talking about another movie,†he told SyFyWire.
“Like with Aladdin, it will not be a straight remake of any movie that’s been made before, so we’re looking at ‘where’s the best way to go with these characters?’” Dan added. “The audience response has really touched us in thinking about where we can go with these stories, and we feel like these characters have more adventures in store.â€
Becky G becomes her own version of Princess Jasmine in the “Un Mundo Ideal” music video!
The 22-year-old singer is joined by Zayn in the video for the Spanish version of Aladdin‘s “A Whole New World”.
“Ya disponible! #UnMundoIdeal (A Whole New World) video with @ZAYN is out everywhere! This is still unreal to me. Thank you to the Disney team and everyone who made this real-life fairytale possible. Such a dream come true. 💜🥰🧞â€â™€ï¸ #AladdÃn,” Becky wrote on Instagram.
Zayn‘s part of the music video is the same as his video in all English with Zhavia.
Naomi Scott‘s vocals in the new Aladdin movie are all hers!
The 26-year-old actress opened up about taking on the opportunity to sing live while filming.
“We had the amazing Simon Hayes, who won the Oscar for Les Mis. So I was like, ‘What a great opportunity to sing live,’” she told Jimmy Kimmel.
“I’m just singing a capella on my own like a crazy person on set,” she continued. “And the worst part is, you can’t really hear yourself, so they can hear when you go off. I wouldn’t want to know what [the crew] were hearing.”
