The 2021 Daytime Emmy Award nominations have just been revealed!
Netflix picked up quite a few noms, including a whopping seven (three of which are in the same category) for the fan favorite musical series Julie and the Phantoms.
Julie is not the only series from the streamer with nominations – Ashley Garcia: Genius In Love, Trinkets, Dash & Lily and Alexa & Katie all have noms!
There’s one specific cameo in the new Netflix series Dash & Lily that you may have not noticed!
Within the holiday show, there’s a fake Pixar movie called Collation, about a romance between a couple of office supplies, a piece of paper and a stapler.
The fictional movie becomes a (no pun intended) staple throughout the course of the show, and at one point, Lily (Midori Francis) mentions that she loves when the highlighter encourages the stapler to “Be bold.”
Well, that highlighter’s line was delivered by none other than Jane The Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez, who actually has a connection to one of the series’ directors and executive producers Brad Silberling, who helped the cameo come to fruition.
“Brad Silberling, one of our producers who also directed the first two episodes, was also a producer and director on Jane the Virgin,†showrunner Joe Tracz told TV Line. “So he was like, ‘You know, I think I could get Gina to do it.’ He reached out her, she was like, ‘Totally!’ and she recorded a bunch of different takes of the line. It was so much fun to actually get to pay off one of these writers’ room jokes that we had.â€
“There was so much Collation stuff that got cut for time. Our favorite writers’ room parlor game was figuring out which celebrities would voice which office supplies. ‘What punny catchphrases do they all have?’ At one point, we imagined Oprah voicing a Post-It note that said, ‘Stick with love!’ Between all of the writers, we pretty much cast Collation. If Pixar gave us a call, we’d be happy to work with them on that.â€
Fun fact: The artist who illustrated the movie poster for Collation, Katy Wu, has actually worked as Pixar sketch artist!
In case you missed it, find out which other celebs had cameos in Dash & Lily, whose appearances you definitely couldn’t miss.
Dante Brown is starring in the new series Dash & Lily!
The 21-year-old actor plays Boomer, Dash’s (Austin Abrams) best friend, who works at the pizza parlor, a staple location throughout the eight episodes.
Boomer’s easygoing nature and unsinkable enthusiasm makes him an unlikely BFF to Dash. Full of big ideas and plans (often concocted from behind the counter of the pizza parlor/video store where he works), he’s a loyal friend and a good listener who’s always down for adventure.
Here’s a synopsis for Dash & Lily: A whirlwind Holiday romance builds as cynical Dash and optimistic Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City, finding they have more in common with each other than they would have expected.
You may recognize Dante from one of his many roles, including Fox shows 9-1-1 and Lethal Weapon, Mr Robinson, and even Henry Danger!

Troy Iwata can be seen in the new Netflix holiday series Dash & Lily!
The actor plays Langston, Lily’s (Midori Francis) gay older brother, who is romantic, impulsive, and just a little immature. Having dropped out of college after experiencing his first heartbreak, he’ll happily give his sister advice on boys, but could stand to take some advice himself.
Langston is half Japanese, and playing the role has implored Troy to learn more about his own Japanese background.

Troy was most recently in the Tony-nominated Broadway production of Be More Chill, and before that, he starred in the off-Broadway production of The Boy Who Danced On Air.
JJJ highly recommends you go watch Dash & Lily on Netflix, which is streaming now, and check out 10 Fun Facts with Troy below!

The Jonas Brothers are making a cameo in the upcoming new show Dash & Lily!
Nick, Joe and Kevin perform their song “Like It’s Christmas” in an episode of the Netflix series, which Nick actually serves as a producer.
The clip also features two of the stars of the show, Austin Abrams and Dante Brown. Nick will also have his own cameo in the same episode.
“Nick and I started kicking around what at the time seemed like a crazy idea,” producer Shawn Levy told THR. “The scripts were written. We were already making the show, and Nick and I were like, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be fun if we invented this sequence where they go to see you in concert, and then somehow they end up in your dressing room?’ and the whole idea was hatched backstage at the Hollywood Bowl in the middle of production, and then everyone scrambled and made it happen a month later.”
“I think he thought I was kidding at first, or maybe that it was the tequila talking. But I just felt like, Yeah, why not? I mean, I’m a part of it already,” Nick also shared with THR. “So it would make perfect sense to figure out the scheduling and it was actually not an easy thing to accomplish because the tour was already pretty busy. And then to make that happen was a difficult thing from a scheduling perspective. But I think it was a really nice thing to get to do and to have the brothers open up their schedules too throughout the day we were shooting to go and do it meant a lot and I’m glad it all came together.”
