We’re fresh off the third viewing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, watching Jyn Erso pretty much save the world. Nope, the galaxy.
It got us thinking, this year had some pretty kick-ass heroines.
From fearless Tris (Allegiant) to otherworldly Jaylah (Star Trek Beyond), fabulous femmes definitely had a moment on the big screen this year.
We know we know Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens can’t make the cut since the movie premiered two weeks before the start of 2016, so we’ll start with our other favorite female warrior:
JYN ERSO
Actress Felicity Jones gave us chills as the ultimate rebel, with her brooding and epic performance of a girl on the ultimate mission in the Rogue One: A Star Wars story. Her valor and her never-ending passion had us on the edge of our seats when we saw her take on her fair share of Storm Troopers and climb the tower, we knew it was going to be one of our favorite Star Wars films to date.
Here’s a synopsis for the movie: In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
Be sure to check it out when it hits theaters December 16!

Kristen Stewart looks beautiful while posing for the cover of Elle magazine‘s November 2016 issue, which will be available on newsstands on October 18.
The 26-year-old actress is one of eight actresses featured on a cover for the Women in Hollywood issue. Three of the other ladies include Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, and Aja Naomi King. Here is what they shared with the mag:
Kristen on opening up about her love life: “I’m not ashamed and I’m not confused. Things have changed. And not just with me—we’re really allowed to encourage this new acceptance to develop and be awesome.”
Anna on the gratitude she feels for her career: “Sometimes, it feels like I’m standing in one of those rooms, in a riddle, where there are all these doors. And it’s like, why wouldn’t I keep opening them? Even if what’s behind is something kind of annoying, I’d rather find out. I think it will be hard for me to know if I should ever take a break, or focus on something else, because I feel so grateful that I get to keep opening that dang door.”
Aja on the inspiring people she works with: “I want to write, I want to direct, I want to produce—I want to inhabit what I think it means to fully be an artist. I always wanted to do that, but I didn’t think I had the tools. Now I look at Viola [Davis] and I look at Nate [Parker] and I look at Shonda [Rhimes] and it’s like, You just do it. You just begin, you know?”
