Harley Quinn Smith & Froy Gutierrez Cast In Freeform Pilot 'Last Summer'

Harley Quinn Smith & Froy Gutierrez Cast In Freeform Pilot 'Last Summer'

Freeform’s newest pilot Last Summer has found it’s cast!

The upcoming series is an unconventional thriller that takes place over three summers—‘93, ‘94, ‘95—in a small Texas town when a beautiful popular teen, Kate, is abducted and, seemingly unrelated, a girl, Jeanette, goes from being a sweet, awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town and, by ’95, the most despised person in America.

Each episode will be told from the POV of one of the two main girls (Jeanette and Kate), which will have the viewers loyalties constantly shifting as more information is revealed.

Harley Quinn Smith has joined the show as Mallory, a quirky outsider who feels left behind when Jeannette becomes the popular girl. Her anger masks her genuine hurt by her once best friend.

Froy Gutierrez will also join the cast, playing Jamie, the kind of guy everyone loves. He starts as Jeannette’s secret crush, who ends up as her boyfriend the following year.

Chiara Aurelia, who has had roles in Pretty Little Liars and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn will take on the lead role of Jeannette, a sweet high schooler who has a zest for
life, but an almost obsessive need to be loved.

Rounding out the cast are Blake Lee, Mika Abdalla, Allius Barnes, Nathaniel Ashton, Michael Landes, and Brooklyn Sudano.

Freeform Is Making a Valentine's Day Road Trip Movie Starring Jake Borelli!

Freeform Is Making a Valentine's Day Road Trip Movie Starring Jake Borelli!

Freeform is starting to produce more movies and the network just announced that they are working on a Valentine’s Day-themed film called The Thing About Harry!

Grey’s Anatomy actor Jake Borelli will star in the rom-com road trip movie, which will be directed by The Fosters creator Peter Paige, who had his big break while starring on Queer as Folk. He’s also going to star in the film!

Jake will play Sam, a handsome, funny, neurotic, intelligent young gay man who combines a scathing wit with an overly idealistic worldview. Sam came out when he was still in high school, something that took a lot of courage in his small Missouri town, but was constantly bullied.

Newcomer Niko Terho will portray Harry, an emotionally uncomplicated, promiscuous player who has always left a string of broken hearts in his wake. Under the surface, Harry actually yearns for love, family and stability, but the thought of commitment still terrifies him.

Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown will play Paul, an exceedingly well put-together, yet overbearing and pretentious gay man; GLOW‘s Britt Baron will play Stasia, Sam’s edgy and opinionated best friend; and Peter will play Casey, Sam’s warm-hearted roommate, who always wants the best for Sam.

Freeform Stands Up for Halle Bailey Starring as Ariel in 'The Little Mermaid'

Freeform Stands Up for Halle Bailey Starring as Ariel in 'The Little Mermaid'

Freeform is sticking up for their grown-ish star Halle Bailey.

The Disney-owned network took to Instagram to slam the racist trolls who have a problem with the 19-year-old actress/singer starring as Ariel in upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid.

“Yes. The original author of ‘The Little Mermaid’ was Danish. Ariel…is a mermaid. She lives in an underwater kingdom in international waters and can legit swim whever [sic] she wants (even though that often upsets King Triton, absolute zaddy).”

Freeform continued: “But for the sake of the argument, let’s say that Ariel, too, is Danish. Danish mermaids can be black bc Danish people can be black. Ariel can sneak up to the surface at any time with her pals Scuttle and the ahem Jamaican crab Sebastian (Sorry, Flounder!) and keep that bronze base tight.”

“Black Danish people, and thus mer-folk, can also genetically (!!!) have red hair. But spoiler alert – bring it back to the top – the character of Ariel is a work of fiction.”

Freeform concluded: “So, after all this is said and done, and you still cannot get past the idea that choosing the incredible, sensational, highly-talented, gorgeous Halle Baily is anything other than INSPIRED casting that it is because she ‘doesn’t look like the cartoon one”, oh boy, do I have some news for you… about you.”

Freeform Upsets 'Shadowhunters' Fans During 'Toy Story' Pop-Up Telecast

Freeform Upsets 'Shadowhunters' Fans During 'Toy Story' Pop-Up Telecast

Shadowhunters fans are quite upset after Friday night’s (December 14) telecast of Toy Story on Freeform.

The network aired a pop-up version of the Disney/Pixar movie with different facts and tidbits about the film.

One thing that wasn’t about Toy Story though, was a certain scene that took a jab at Shadowhunters and it’s fandom.

During a scene where Woody asks an 8 Ball a question. The pop-up tidbit said, “Will Freeform save Shadowhunters if I keep tweeting about it?” and the 8 Ball said, “Don’t count on it.”

Fans were outraged after seeing that and took to social media to call out Freeform for being tacky, disrespectful, and more. The network cancelled the fan favorite show, despite an outcry from fans, the continuous #SaveShadowhunters campaign, and the show’s multiple write in nominations for the People’s Choice Awards.

Check out the scene below!

UPDATE: Freeform has responded and apologized via Twitter: “This was a mistake. We never intended to disrespect the Shadowhunters fandom. We apologize for this.”

Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Matthew Daddario & More Were Just As Shocked About 'Shadowhunters' Being Cancelled

Last night, we were blindsided by the news that Freeform had made the decision to cancel Shadowhunters after three seasons; and just like you, the cast wasn’t prepared for it.

Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, and Isaiah Mustafa all took to social media to react to the devastating news.

“We just found out too — and believe me we are as shocked as you,” Katherine shared in a message on Twitter. “Truly, this show has been a treasure. I fell in love with this story and its mythology instantly.”

“Playing Clary has been an honor and a joy,” she adds. “She is such a special, strong lady (some might say short, redheaded and bad-tempered) — thank you for entrusting her to me and coming on this journey with us.”
