LeVar Burton Joins 'Nancy Drew' Spinoff Pilot 'Tom Swift'

LeVar Burton has been added to the cast of Tom Swift!

The legendary actor joins Tian Richards in the potential spinoff of Nancy Drew at The CW, Deadline reveals.

LeVar won’t quite be appearing on the screen though, as he will voice Tom Swift’s steadfast AI companion and tough-love mentor Barclay.

According to Deadline, “created by the young genius when Tom was eight years old, Barclay has been by his side ever since — nimbly transferring himself to Tom’s smartwatch, his tablet, his laptop and even the screens of his car to offer astute encouragement and lightning-fast analysis. He’s Tom’s Hype Man, Tom’s confidante, and Tom’s friend — with a surprising depth of emotion and a journey of his own to take.”

Tom Swift has been given a backdoor pilot on Nancy Drew which could potentially lead to it’s own series. The pilot episode will air TOMORROW (May 12)!

The potential series follows “the Black, gay, billionaire inventor who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy after the disappearance of his father. Tom takes to the road on a quest to unravel the truth, leaving behind the comforts of his usual moneyed lifestyle, all while fighting to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him.”

LeVar is no stranger to voice work, having voiced characters on Transformers: Rescue Bots, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Mission Force One and more. He’s also most well known for starring as Geordi La Forge in multiple Star Trek shows and movies, and for being the award winning host and executive producer of Reading Rainbow!
