At the festival, Julie opened up about one of the show’s upcoming episodes, which is set in film noir.
“Legacies is doing its first and maybe only film noir episode, which is born out of the brilliant mind of [executive producer] Brett Matthews, who actually studied noir in film school and is a huge fan of the genre and knows it intimately,” she told EW. “We just wanted to dive into a fantasy world we hadn’t done before.”
“It was just a genre that stuck with me for a long time,” Brett added. “Actually, we had the episode broken and we didn’t know conceptually what we wanted the world to be. There were a lot of ideas on the table. There was Western, there was steampunk, there was Victorian. Film noir just became the perfect storm of producible and fit the tone of the season and that particular episode.”
The Legacies film noir episode, titled, “There’s a Place Where the Lost Things Go,” will air on March 12th on The CW!
The 21-year-old actress opened up in the issue about what inspired her to be an actress, Legacies fans and the appeal of playing Josie Saltzman on the CW series. Check it:
On how the acting bug bit her: “I used to pretend to be sick so I can stay home from school because all I wanted to do was watch Mulan and The Addams Family on repeat. I actually went about a year pretending to be Wednesday Addams. It wasn’t until I was around 7 or 8 years old that I felt like that was an actual part that somebody could play.”
On playing Josie: “What attracted me specifically to Josie was, number one, her sexual fluidity. It was very appealing to me to have that representation for young men and women. So much work had to be done into her self-process, and so little of it was said. I was ecstatic to take on that challenge…Josie started off this show as a 15-year-old girl who just didn’t know who she was or how to stand up for herself, or when to stand up for herself. In every episode something very impactful happens, so there is always something going on through Josie’s brain and as an actor I want to validate every single thought that she has.”
On being recognized by fans: “To this day, it shocks me when people come up to me on the street and know who I am, just because I don’t think of myself as anything other than Kaylee that shows up to work every day, and wants to create really interesting and exciting pieces of art people can enjoy. So it’s been weird but at the same it makes me happy that people are enjoying the work that we are all putting into this show.”

In an interview with TVLine, Jenny, Danielle and Kaylee all opened up about what’s ahead for their characters in season two.
For Lizzie and Josie, Kaylee and Jenny opened up about the merge.
“I really don’t think Josie’s in a place where she would fight back,†Kaylee says. “She’d let her win.†Jenny, though, is convinced that it would be a close battle.
Danielle also chatted about a world without Hope: “It’s definitely a change of pace…it gives these guys a little bit of freedom to explore different situations and dynamics now, because it’s justified. Last year, certain things wouldn’t have been justified, but now we get to experiment a little bit — until Hope is remembered and all hell breaks loose.â€
Kaylee Bryant shows off her shaggy bangs while attending the Rooftop Cinema Club’s Premiere Night held at NeueHouse on Tuesday night (March 19) in Hollywood.
The 21-year-old Legacies actress met up with some friends including Carrie Wampler (aka Brooke from Austin & Ally) for the event.
The Rooftop Cinema Club hosted a screening of Mean Girls, and guests enjoyed complimentary cocktails, light bites as well as wireless headphones, comfy lounge chairs, and blankets.
The 22-year-old actress, who plays Josie in the series, headed to social media to share a slew of pics and cute message about a successful first season of the show.
“I’m grateful for everything that has happened in the last year and I’m looking forward to what’s to come. Here’s to our last day of season 1 💕 #Legacies,” Kaylee wrote on Twitter.
Just a few hours later, she took to her Instagram, sharing a bunch of pictures she took throughout filming.

Jenny Boyd and Kaylee Bryant are opening up about the Saltzman Twins fate on Legacies – and it looks like fans of the franchise know a lot more than they do.
Chatting with IBT, the young actress opened up about the curse and their bond.
“They don’t know much,†Kaylee shared, referencing the Gemini Coven Curse. “I don’t think we can talk much about that because that’s just — it’s a storyline that we’re exploring throughout the show because it’s a big part of who we are as twins, and it’s something that you’re going to see kind of unfold throughout the series.â€
If you don’t know, twins in the Gemini Coven take part in a ritual called The Merge. When the twins hit age 22, they’ll fight and the strongest will absorb the other’s power, killing them.
Since they don’t know anything just yet, we’re pretty sure that it will break them because of their close bond with each other.
“They are always going to have a strong bond together,” they shared. “It’s the outside things that affect that, and it’s just how we react to that. I think we’re always going to be there for each other no matter what. I hope so.â€
