The YouTuber and makeup artist showed his meeting with designer Alexander Wang to pick out his outfit and the two discussed breaking boundaries when it comes to YouTubers and traditional media.
“There’s not that much respect, especially in traditional media, for YouTubers. We obviously get pushed down quite a lot,” James says. “One of the things that I always work on in my videos is deleting that boundary and really making an effort to show that YouTubers honoring people, we are business people, and we work really really hard on our content.”
The night before the big event, James sat down with Lilly Singh, Liza Koshy and Rosie Huntington-Whitely about YouTubers and social media people attending major events like the Met Gala.
“It’s a breaking moment for social media. Social media has been so heavily incorporated into this year because they realize the value that it brings to the Met. Everyone’s talking about it, there’s reviews. It’s so fun. To be able to have us there, we’re representing the community that has been undermined in a sense,” Liza said.
