The 33-year-old YouTube star, who you might best know for her Miranda Sings character, uploaded a video titled “addressing everything” on Tuesday (May 12).
In the video, Colleen spoke about various topics, including a video of her and her sister from 14 years ago in which she does Latina characters “completely based on racial stereotypes.”
“It is not funny, and it is completely hurtful. I am so ashamed and embarrassed that I ever thought this was okay,” she said.
She also discussed a video from 12 years ago about an overweight woman next to her on a flight.
“That is not the woman I am today. I’m such a huge advocate for women…the fact that I talked negatively about someone who is overweight is absolutely disgusting to me.”
She also discussed a story about her dog being put down after biting her as a child, which was seen by some as insensitive.
“To anyone and everyone who was hurt or offended by the statements I made when I was younger, I am so, so sorry. I hope you all can see that the person I am today is so far from the person I was a decade ago.”
Colleen Ballinger is opening up about her show Haters Back Off in a new interview!
The 33-year-old Miranda Sings actress recently sat down with Trisha Paytas on her podcast The Dish with Trish and revealed some details about who actually auditioned for the Netflix series.
“We just had auditions. I mean, the people who auditioned, it was insane!” Colleen said. “It’s crazy ’cause that was the thing I was most excited for. I was like, ‘People are going to audition to play my uncle. People are going to audition to play my mom.’”
“I couldn’t believe the celebrities that came in to audition,” she continued. “So much of The Office cast came in. The people that we had coming in, it was craziness. So many wonderful, sweet people. We were considering for the mom, like Jane Lynch. She’s amazing, I adore her. She’s the sweetest person. She didn’t come in [to audition], but we had talked to her about it. She was really sweet about, she had really nice things to say, and she had other things going on.”
“Everyone was so sweet, and a lot of people came in to audition that I was like, ‘I grew up watching this person on television, and now they’re auditioning to play my mom.’ There’s tons of people,” Colleen added.
Angela Kinsey, from The Office, ended up playing her mom, with her now husband Erik Stocklin played Patrick, and Steve Little played her uncle Jim.
In a new “Carpool Karaoke” video on James‘ channel, the two friends talked about the beauty drama last summer and how she wanted to be there for her friend.
“I was concerned because I don’t like when anyone is going through it, no matter what the situation is, I think bullying is so horrible. Whether people think it’s warranted bullying or not,” Colleen said. “I was just checking in on you. We just had a sweet conversation.”
“I hung up the phone and started sobbing,” James replied. “It was when I was in Australia, and you called me… You, honestly, have been such an amazing friend to me for a long time now.”
“I don’t like cancel culture. I think it’s important to call people out when they make mistakes, and I think it’s important to hold people accountable when they do things wrong,” Colleen continued. “I don’t like when people just don’t listen to every side of the story, and don’t come at it with empathy for anyone.”
“When I called you, I didn’t see James Charles the internet person, I just saw a human who was struggling, and I saw my friend… I didn’t know what was going on, I didn’t know what the truth was, I didn’t know anything. All I knew was that you were getting bullied pretty badly and I wanted to make sure you were okay, regardless of whatever the situation was,” she added.
“Flynn’s first Birthday party was so much fun! He turns 1 on Tuesday but we celebrated today!” Colleen shared on Instagram. “Can’t wait for you all to all to see the video of his puppy paw-ty later this week! 🶔
