The creator/writer put up a good fight to keep the show going, but unfortunately, it was still cancelled.
“I am deeply grateful for the #FamousInLove cast, crew and our passionate fans. I could not be more saddened by today’s news. I love these characters and the wild ride they were taking us on,” Marlene wrote after the news. “Thank you @warnerbrosTV for fighting the good fight with me. We gave it our all. Keep #Raige in your hearts and they will live on.”
While the TV show may no longer be continuing, she knows just how the story would go on, and wants to find a way to tell how it all continued.
“S3 of #FamousInLove is totally mapped out. This was a blow so I need to catch my breath but I would love to find a way to share w fans. â¤ï¸,” she replied to a fan on Twitter.
“We know season 3. Going to try to find a way to give all the answers to our fans. Maybe a podcast! #FamousInLove,” Marlene continued.

Showrunner I. Marlene King revealed in a new video featurette that PLL inspired her to sign up for the series, starring Bella Thorne.
“One of the reasons I wanted to do this show is because I got to watch the Pretty Little Liars grow up in front of the camera and become starlets over the course of the show,” she shared. “Seeing the good, the bad and the ugly…”
Marlene adds, “All of that is such great fuel for Famous in Love…We get to show our audience, worldwide, what does it really look like when the camera turns off and you go on with your life after someone says ‘wrap’.”
“New town. Same secrets. It begins,” Janel captioned with a slideshow of pics, including one of her, Sasha, Sofia and showrunner I. Marlene King doing a “shhh” gesture, just like the flagship show, Pretty Little Liars, was known for.
The three actresses didn’t give a lot away about who else stars in the series yet, and we’re really anxious to find out who will be playing these characters!
“I love those characters so much,” she shared with US Weekly. “A couple of those characters are going to be in the Pretty Little Liars spinoff [The Perfectionists].”
Marlene added, “I had so much fun writing for those characters again and it just made me realize how much I love writing for that world.
While a revival isn’t in the works at the moment, Marlene did share that the show could return “some day”.
“I think the girls all really want to grow up and do their own things, like follow their own individual projects for a while. And maybe we’ll eventually come back,” she adds.
And until then, we always have short stories from Marlene, like this Spoby one.
Speaking with ET recently, she dished about locations, just which other Pretty Little Liars characters might pop up and bringing in important male characters into the show.
“I felt like just as we were getting sort of into season five and six of Pretty Little Liars, our guys became such an important part of the show,” she says. “I wanted to explore the relationship between guys and girls who can be friends and not necessarily boyfriend-girlfriend.”
Marlene says that they’re looking to shoot the pilot in Portland and are “in the process of rewriting [the pilot] just to fine-tune it perfectly… we’re super excited about it.”
As for any other PLL characters to pop up, she didn’t rule anything out — even when it came to Emily (Shay Mitchell).
“Well, we’ll just have to wait and see,” she teased.
