Black Lightning's Upcoming 4th Season Will Be It's Last

Black Lightning is coming to an end.

It was just revealed that the CW series will be over after it’s upcoming fourth season, according to Variety.

“When we first started the Black Lighting journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the super hero genre,” series creator Salim Akil said in a statement. “The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black People Want To See Themselves in all their complexities.”

“Thank you to the phenomenal cast, writers and crew without whom none of this would’ve been possible,” he added. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve been able to do and the moments we’ve been able to create in bringing DC’s first African-American family of super heroes to life for the culture. I’m very grateful to Peter Roth, Warner Bros. TV, Mark Pedowitz, The CW Network and Greg Berlanti for their partnership and support of my vision at every step of this journey. While Season Four may be the end of one journey, I’m extremely excited to usher in a new chapter and continued collaboration with The CW as we tell the story of Painkiller.”

If you missed it, it was recently announced that a spinoff of Black Lightning is in the works, called Painkiller, and it looks like that will be moving forward, despite Black Lightning ending.

Chantal Thuy embodies the character of Grace Choi,” showrunner Salim Akil told EW in a statement. “I am sure our Black Lightning fans knew, especially those who follow the Grace and Anissa relationship storyline, that having Chantal join as a series regular was only a matter of time. 'Black Lightning' Spinoff In The Works With This Character, To Get Backdoor Pilot

Another DC Comics series could be coming to The CW!

It was just revealed that a Black Lightning spinoff is in the works called Painkiller, following Jordan Calloway‘s character Khalil/Painkiller, THR reports.

The possible series will get a backdoor pilot in the seventh episode of the upcoming fourth season of the original show.

In the episode, “Khalil is riddled with the guilt of his troubled past from his former life in Freeland City, where as super-enhanced killing machine Painkiller he was a member of Tobias Whale’s gang and a weapon of Agent Odell and the shadowy ASA. After attempting to bury Painkiller, Khalil moves to Akashic valley to find peace as his history clashes with a new beginning and he is forced back into action to bring justice.”

This would be the latest DC spinoff coming to the network, following the recent news that Supergirl is ending after it’s upcoming sixth season. There is still no word yet on the Arrow spinoff, Green Arrow and the Canaries.

Painkiller is also the second spinoff to air a backdoor pilot in the upcoming season. Nancy Drew will also air a backdoor pilot for the possible new spinoff Tom Swift.

The CW Reveals Schedule For 2020/2021 Season

The CW has just announced when all of your favorite shows will be coming back!

The network unveiled the schedule for the Fall 2020/2021 season, which will actually kick off in January 2021, Deadline reports.

CW President Mark Pedowitz shared that the late start won’t affect the number of episodes, and the episodes that weren’t able to be filmed due to productions being shut down, will be filmed and included in the new seasons.

Most shows will continue with the same dates and times, with a few changes.

New shows Superman & Lois and Walker have been inserted into the schedule. Superman & Lois will air on Tuesday nights after The Flash, and Walker has taken over Supernatural‘s Thursday night time slot.

Another notable change is Charmed, which will move from Friday nights back to it’s original Sunday nights, taking the place of Supergirl, which is being put on hold, likely due to Melissa Benoist‘s pregnancy.

Supernatural‘s final episodes will also be filmed and those will air this fall in it’s regular time slot, Thursday night at 8/7c.

No word yet on when just announced Kung Fu and Republic of Sarah will air.
